It was so great to be able to go on a family adventure after lockdowns and winter weather. We took the scenic drive from Albury to Beechworth this weekend and discovered the pretty town of Beechworth and Beechworth Historic Park.
Beechworth Historic Park is located just outside Beechworth. It has many waterfalls and pleasant walks to go on. It's a 14km round trip that goes all the way into beechworth this walk goes beside Reid creek (also known as Spring Creek).
Woolshed falls is just near the carpark and is a spectacular waterfall with lots of rockpools and climbing fun. You can go and play in the shallows of the waterfall. It has lots of skinks and lizard basking on the rocks. Great for everyone in the family. Woolshed falls goes down layers of rock and then drops of a large cliff and falls to the bottom, making it a fantastic waterfall. It also has a little gap that goes very deep and has fast flowing water in it.
The Cascades was he best waterfall in this park with over a 60m drop to the ground! It's definitely worth the 3.5km walk to get there. It's one of the best waterfalls there is in Victoria, I think! Sadly, you can't go right next to it because it's to dangerous, but, you can get some great pictures from a distance on the lookout.
Beechworth was a popular town during the Gold Rush in 1851, and for the gold rush they actually dug out some bits of the creek so they could pan gold. They also cut off bits of rock leaving these white crusty stones on the rock. It was interesting learning about the gold rush as we took the walking track up the creek.
We saw many species of birds on our walk like Galahs, Cockatoos and a White-faced Heron. We also heard lots of frogs since they were around the water. There were also lots of Wildflowers. I like the purple ones. There was a spiky yellow plant which I didn't like though.
Beechworth Honey is an Australian wide honey company. All of there honey is 100% Australian and is amazing! They do many different types of honey like Almond and Red Gum Honey. They all taste so different and yummy. I like the Spotted Gum, it tastes a bit like Caramel. They also make candles and creams with the honeycomb. They also have a tour you can go on which allows you to see the process of how they make their honey and the history of the Beechworth Honey company. Go to https://www.beechworthhoney.com.au/ to help support them.
There were also many fun things to do along the way. Please Consider checking out my instagram account at https://www.instagram.com/walking_barefoot_abbey/.
